The Birth of Andromeda Ethiopia Coffee

Our activity in Ethiopia started with a desire to do something for the immediate needs of people suffering from drought. While we have realized “Cosmic Manifesto” concert in Addis Ababa with great success and then started to develop a water supply project with Japanese specialist and implementing actual facilities, however, one day we were told to think about starting a business that would contribute to Ethiopian farmers as a means to drastically tackle the roots of problems, while the real cause of disaster is the terrible system made by man; namely the poverty that has made profit from the lives of human beings.
Ethiopia is the original source of coffee. We felt it our assignment to introduce its marvelous taste to Japan, so we started importing directly from Ethiopia the best beans especially selected for NPO KOMA. We also developed a special method to filter the energy of Idaki Shin’ s music during the roasting procedure of the beans with a customized sound system. This we believe to give an exquisite taste and makes very healthy coffee, in accordance with the original use of coffee as a medicinal beverage. This is the birth of our Andromeda Ethiopia coffee, made out of the stunning beauty of Ethiopian nature, its great history and pride as the original source of coffee and what we call the energy of light of Idaki Shin’ s sound.
Andromeda is the name of a queen of the ancient kingdom of Ethiopia. No day passes without thinking about the children I met in Gode on my first inspection of its drought. Their eyes were so pure and their full smiling faces remained in my mind, but nobody was there when I visited Gode a second time. Life may go away but they are still together. Thus diffusing our coffee is what we can do to tackle poverty and drought. Feeling that Andromeda symbolizes the wishes of numerous lives, past and present. Andromeda Ethiopia aspires to be the No1 coffee available in Japan, with its original taste of coffee.

Both powerful and elegant coffee from the land of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania that is said to have a natural healing
power from its dynamic nature. Very limited production and hard to find in market, however the success of our “Torch of Peace” Idaki Shin concert held in Dar es Salam made it possible to regularly supply for NPO KOMA. It is an extremely precious coffee that took five years to have them in stock.

Yamamoto Strawberry Farm Sales Shop and
NPO KOMA coffee roasting workshop & cafe

On 11th of March 2018, we opened “Yui-Kobo” in front of Yamashita Station in Yamamoto-cho. Mr. Takashi Iwasa, the representative of Yamamoto Strawberry Farm, rose up immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake in Yamamoto-cho, where the town was destroyed, to run a strawberry farm for the future generations. Through my encounter with him, Yui-Kobo (Yamamoto Strawberry Farm Sales Shop and NPO KOMA coffee roasting workshop & cafe) came to be built. Coffee beans we import directly from Ethiopia and Tanzania, as part of the project of NPO KOMA to support Africa, are all roasted by Master Idaki Shin. I have always appreciated the coffee as God’s gift, and when I had coffee roasted at Yui-Kobo, I was filled with joy to have given a gift that is truly from God. “Yui-Kobo” also has a confectionary kitchen. You can have gluten-free sweets, made with fruits and other produce harvested locally, that can be enjoyed together with the coffee. Because we have a cafe together with a coffee roasting workshop and a confectionary kitchen, I am sincerely grateful to offer the most delicious menu. I am looking forward to everyone’s visit to Yui-Kobo. With the beautiful aroma of coffee wafting that makes a heart enriched, wishing for happiness and hope to reach the world, I could realize “a light of hope that would shine forever in the land of Tohoku,” a vision I saw, by the opening of “Yui-Kobo”. At the same time, I saw light extending in all directions. We will live vigorously with beautiful hearts to spread the circle of light. We look forward to your kind support. Thank you very much.

From Tohoku Recovery to Japan’s Revival

2011
Charity Concert to Support the Recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake

Expressing my true demand of life, which is born, I toured all the disaster-stricken areas in Iwate Prefecture and established a base of NPO Koma in Morioka with the single-minded desire to create a path for the future.

  • Since March 2011, as part of the reconstruction support activities after the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have donated “Mind-Scape” marbling T-shirts by Keiko Koma and served Andromeda Ethiopia coffee in various locations in the Tohoku region.
  • On July 6, at the Mikurayama Event Tent in Yamada-cho, Iwate Prefecture, and on August 3, at Suzuko Plaza in Kamaishi City, held the “Idakishin Charity Concert in Memory of the Victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and to Support Reconstruction”. Since then, 49 charity concerts for the Great East Japan Earthquake have been held in Tohoku prefectures (as of May 2018).
  • On September 7, NPO Koma Tohoku Center was established in Morioka City as a base for reconstruction assistance.

2014
Encounter with Yamamoto Strawberry Farm, Miyagi Prefecture

I continued to visit Tohoku once a month with the desire to create a path of reconstruction assistance.

Miyagi Prefecture was on my mind, and I was able to hold my lecture and “Legends of Koguryo Rediscovered” concert in Sendai. At that time, I spent a sleepless night in agony during the night.

I experienced firsthand the pain and suffering of many people living in this region. It is painful to know that we have not been able to do anything in Miyagi Prefecture until now, and we are filled with tears. As an expression of our mind, we have decided to hold a charity concert for Idaki Shin in Sendai.

At that time, I visited a representative of a strawberry farm in the town of Yamamoto, whom I had wanted to meet since immediately after the earthquake. I was so impressed by his way of life, thinking about the road to recovery, the next generation, and the future, and his efforts to create a town with hope, that I made a connection with him and installed Idaki shin’s sound system in his strawberry farm.

The representative, who has been growing strawberries for 30 years, said he had never tasted such delicious strawberries, and we installed sound systems in all the greenhouses.

Oct. 2015
NPO Koma Roasting Plant (shed) started

Through a chance encounter, we set up a coffee roasting hut in a corner of Yamamoto Strawberry Farm as a way to support the reconstruction of the Tohoku region. (October 2015)

The coffee business was born out of NPO Koryo’s support for Ethiopia. I believe that in the future, Africa will help mankind, and I started the coffee business as a coincidence, and I see it as a future-creating business. I am very grateful to be able to work for the future.

We are very grateful for the opportunity to create a base for future-creating businesses in the disaster-stricken Tohoku region. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to take a step forward on the path of concrete reconstruction assistance.
